Campgrounds and RV parks in Northwest Territories (NT) / Canada

Northwest Territories

The Northwest Territories is one of Canada’s best kept travel secrets. The landscape is pristine and very diverse, with vistas ranging from spectacular waterfalls to towering mountains flanked by the distinctive low-growing greenery of the arctic tundra.

As the middle territory (between Yukon and Nunavut) and north of Alberta and British Columbia, the NWT has a total area of 1,170,000 kms and a population of 42,810, which means that there are plenty of wide open spaces to explore. The territory is home to four National parks, five bird sanctuaries and one bison sanctuary.

We specialize in memorable trips for a whole range of outdoor enthusiasts. Fish for world class trophy catches on one of our super-sized lakes in the long days of a northern summer. Or drive across the Arctic Circle on the beautiful Dempster Highway. Hikers can trek in a National Park at the top of the world, where caribou spend the summer. Paddlers will enjoy a ride on a wild northern river few have ever seen. Sightseers can hop a bush plane or helicopter and fly over the Nahanni mountain ranges, into the Mackenzie Delta or over the Great Slave Lake's East Arm. The views are awe inspiring and timeless.

To truly experience the Northwest Territories, plan to enjoy our roadside parks and campgrounds. Enjoy scenic waterfalls and a wilderness that many claim has disappeared from the face of the earth. The only traffic jams you’ll experience on our long stretches of open road will come from the bison crossing our highways. Other wildlife commonly seen along our roadways are moose and black bears. The NWT is a birdwatchers paradise as rare birds from across the Americas nest here each summer. It is common to see Sandhill Cranes, Arctic Terns, Yellow Warblers and many other species.
Territorial Parks are owned and operated by the Government of the Northwest Territories and are open from May 15 to September 15.
